Producing Portland cement consumes huge amounts of energy.
That’s the bad news. But there’s lots of good news. First, B Form
uses less concrete than the average joe-concrete guy. Second, depending on the project, B Form uses any of three alternative materials or a combination thereof (fly ash, slag or VCAS) to reduce the amount of Portland cement used in the mix. Right now, the mix is between 40-50 percent recycled content. Meanwhile, products and technologies are always developing: B Form is currently experimenting with CSA (calcium sulphoaluminate) cements, which require less energy to produce and yield stronger products. Finally, all other B Form mix materials are sourced locally; furniture wood is either reclaimed or harvested locally.
